Instagram may announce a new app with short videos. The head of the social network Adam Mosseri said this during a private meeting, according to the tech publication The Information. Their correspondent was present at a private meeting between Adam Mosseri and representatives of Meta, the company that owns Instagram. The latter have not yet given an official comment on the matter.
The release of the new app was timed to coincide with the events of January, when Donald Trump gave TikTok 75 days to comply with the law and raised the issue of blocking the app.
At that time, Trump expressed the idea of joint management of TikTok, proposing to divide ownership between the United States and the Chinese company ByteDance in a 50-50 ratio. However, he did not provide details on how this could work.
The Biden administration has insisted that TikTok, which is used by 170 million people in the United States, could be used by China to collect data and exert political influence.
Opponents of blocking TikTok argue that it restricts freedom of speech.
It is worth noting that Meta has already tried to compete with TikTok by launching a separate application Lasso in 2018. However, it was later closed.
